Estate Theatre

Stavovské divadlo (Estate Theatre) is one of Prague’s most iconic cultural landmarks, renowned for its rich history and stunning architecture. Completed in 1783, this beautifully preserved neoclassical building is best known for being the venue where Mozart’s Don Giovannihad its premiere in 1787, cementing its place in the city’s musical legacy. With its elegant façade and meticulously restored interiors, the theatre offers a glimpse into the grandeur of 18th century Prague.

As one of the four venues of the National Theatre group, the Estate Theatre continues to host high-quality performances, ranging from opera and ballet to classic plays. Just a short walk from the Estate Theatre, tucked by its right side, you'll find the Karolinum, the historical and ceremonial heart of Charles University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe. Founded in 1348 by Charles IV, the Karolinum is one of the most prestigious palaces in the Old Town. The present appearance of the Karolinum is predominantly Baroque. The Great Hall, central feature of the interior, serves as the venue for academic ceremonies and student graduations, while the Cloister is used for contemporary art exhibitions.
