Located on charming Loreta Square (Loretánské náměstí) in Hradčany, directly opposite the grand Černín Palace and just a short walk from Prague Castle, Loreta is one of the most unique and peaceful places to visit in the city. This beautiful Baroque complex, built in the 1600s, has been a pilgrimage site for centuries—and it still enchants visitors today with its calm atmosphere, elegant architecture, and magical hourly chimes.

At its heart lies the Santa Casa—a replica of the Virgin Mary's house, believed to have been miraculously transported from Nazareth to Italy—surrounded by beautiful arcaded walkways.

Inside, you’ll find the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord, adorned with lavish Baroque frescoes and altars, and the Loreta Treasury, home to an extraordinary collection of liturgical objects. Its most famous piece is the Prague Sun, a dazzling diamond-studded monstrance made of over 6,000 diamonds—a true masterpiece of sacred art.

One of the highlights is the bell tower, whose 27 bells, cast in Amsterdam in 1694, play a delightful Marian melody every hour—the largest historic church carillon—a magical moment that often stops visitors in their tracks.

💡 Top Tip 💡

Don’t miss the bell chimes that ring out each hour—a perfect start to your visit. Be sure to see the dazzling Prague Sun in the treasury, and finish with a quiet wander through Nový Svět, a tranquil old-world lane just behind Loreta that feels untouched by modern tourism and where time seems to stand still.
