Royal Gardens

Královská zahrada (Royal Garden), originally established in 1534 by Ferdinand I of Habsburg on the site of medieval vineyards, stands as one of the most peaceful green retreats in the heart of Prague. From their Renaissance beginnings, the gardens were designed not only for beauty but also to entertain the royal court.

Over time, they were enhanced with notable architectural gems such as the Ball Game Hall (Míčovna), built in the 16th century, which was used for courtly ball games and features vaulted ceilings and ornate Renaissance details.

The stunning Queen Anne’s Summer Palace (Královský letohrádek královny Anny), also known as the Belvedere Pavilion, was built around 1560 as a summer residence for the royal family. It is an exquisite Renaissance structure featuring beautiful arcades and frescoed walls. The Belvedere’s airy design and artistic details make it a perfect spot to imagine the luxurious leisure of royal life.

Alongside the Belvedere, visitors can explore the New Orangery (Nová Oranžerie), built during the presidency of Václav Havel. The garden is accessible during the summer season through four entrances: two western gates from U Prašného mostu Street, a northern gate near Queen Anne’s Summer Palace, and an eastern gate from Chotkovy sady Park.
