Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné (Church of Our Lady Victorious), an elegant Baroque church world-renowned as the home of the Infant Jesus of Prague—a small 16th-century wax statue believed by many to have miraculous powers—is tucked into the heart of Malá Strana. The church was originally built in the early 17th century as one of the first Baroque buildings in Prague and later given to the Carmelite Order, who promoted the veneration of the statue.
The statue itself was a gift from Spain and arrived in Prague in 1628. Dressed in elaborately embroidered robes and jeweled crowns—many donated by pilgrims and royalty—the Infant Jesus is displayed in a side chapel, and his clothing is changed regularly according to the liturgical calendar. His popularity is especially strong among pilgrims from Latin America, the Philippines, and Spain, who come to pray for health, protection, and family blessings.
The church interior is richly decorated with stucco work, gilded altars, and devotional paintings. A small museum on-site displays the statue’s historic robes and gifts, offering insight into centuries of devotion and tradition.
