Jerusalem Synagogue
7 Jeruzalémská Nové Město
Jeruzalémská synagoga (Jerusalem Synagogue), tucked just behind the busy streets near Prague’s Main Train Station, also known as the Jubilee Synagogue, is a stunning and often overlooked gem. Built in 1906 to commemorate Emperor Franz Joseph’s silver jubilee, it combines Art Nouveau and Moorish Revival styles, creating one of the most visually captivating religious buildings in Prague.
The synagogue’s vibrant façade features striped stonework, ornate stucco, and a magnificent rose window inscribed with the Hebrew words: "This is the gate to the Lord—through which the righteous may enter." Inside, you’ll be immersed in a richly decorated space filled with geometric patterns, stained-glass windows, and elaborate arches—a bold and colorful contrast to the more subdued synagogues in Josefov.
Today, Jerusalem Synagogue is an active place of worship and also serves as a cultural venue, hosting temporary exhibitions, Holocaust memorial displays, and concerts. Though slightly off the main tourist route, it’s a rewarding stop for visitors interested in architecture, history, and Jewish heritage.
💡 Top Tip 💡
Pair your visit with a walk down Jeruzalémská Street, one of Prague’s few examples of pre-war urban character outside the Old Town. It’s a peaceful detour with a dramatically different atmosphere—and you’ll often have the synagogue to yourself.
